Welcome!

Hello There, Book Travelers!

We've been waiting for an opportunity to share ideas with Christian book lovers in this community and surrounding areas for quite some time, and it's finally here! At Abundant Life Ministry's Book Club, we consider ourselves on an endless but exciting journey into imaginary as well as down-to-earth worlds woven by Christian authors of fiction and non-fiction. We've laughed and cried together over books such as Martyr's Song by Ted Dekker, and Frank Peretti's novels, This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness.

Two months at a time, our book club alternates between a fiction and non-fiction book. Then, once a month (Tuesdays at 7 pm), we meet over refreshments to fellowship and share our thoughts on whatever book we're reading.

The Uncharted Journeys Continue!

Happy New Year!  This past year, ALM's Book Club has not been able to meet formally due to other ministry commitments.  However, that has not stopped passionate readers from searching out inspiring Christian fiction and nonfiction books, reading them, and recommending them to one another.  One of such books, coming all the way from the bookshelf of a covenant sister in Virginia, has really made its impact.

The book, entitled "The Reluctant Demon Diaries" by Linda Rios Brook, is a two-in-one account of a timid fallen angel who is terrified at finding himself on the wrong side of Lucifer's rebellion against God.  Having been given the job of watching Earth and reporting its events to his new master, he narrates the major events, always looking for the opportunity when he can present himself before God and ask to be accepted back into heaven.

While reading about these events from the Bible, I've been inspired to do my part in keeping the enemy defeated in my life and in the lives of others through intercession.  The enemy is afraid of intercession more than anything because he knows it moves God to do things on humanity's behalf  that He already wants to do.  This book is definitely one that we'll be passing on to others this month.  Grab this book from your nearest bookstore and read with us.  The uncharted journeys continue in 2013!

"The Traveler's Gift"

Saturday, June 30, 2012

Saturday, June 30th, 2012 Hi, Book Travelers! After a brief hiatus, we're ready to charge forward with the vision God has given us. When you are called to accomplish something, you cannot see it as a burden. As a matter of fact, the world is counting on you to fulfill your calling. There is literally a void created when you're not in your place, and when you do not seize the precious moments provided by God. We feel an amazing sense of renewed purpose for the Book Club at ALM. You may be curious as to the source of inspiration after such a long time. Why now, after so many months, you may ask? Well, there's this book, of course! If you're stuck in a rut or are having trouble finding joy in doing what you do, then it's a must that you get this in your hands as soon as possible. It's called "The Traveler's Gift: Seven Decisions that Determine Personal Success" by Andy Andrews. We've been motivated by this author before with the book "The Noticer", and this next book takes it to the next level. After reading this book, a few things have become clear. It's NOT by coincidence that we each have certain gifts and talents. Neither is it by happenstance that trials, problems and setbacks come against us. What we must never do is see who we are and what we do as insignificant. The purpose we've been assigned to is designed to transform lives, bring blessing to others, and to bring us to a place of wealth for generations to come. But it's up to US to develop certain mindsets and habits (everything our pastors have been ministering recently) that will bring those things into fruition. Get focused, get into position for God's best, and watch God do what He's already ordained in your life. "The Traveler's Gift" is a must-read.

Hi, Book Travelers! At Abundant Life Ministries this year, our focus is on ACTION! But we realize that because of the patterns, habits and attitudes we develop over the years-- whether from our ancestors, or from circumstances, there are some strongholds in our lives that we must FIRST identify, then systematically uproot if we want to be effective.

Over the next few months, we're diving headfirst into WARFARE: for ourselves, our loved ones and friends, then for our church and our city. We're determined that NOTHING will stop us from launching into the eternal fight for righteousness. The Word of God says in Jeremiah 48:10, "Cursed is anyone who does the work of God deceitfully (with complacency), and cursed is the one who keeps back his soul from blood.". In other wordsGod expects us to engage the enemy in battle.

We will not wait for the enemy to come to us, but we will go to him, yielding ourselves as weapons of war through the power of the Holy Spirit. To equip us, we of course will be using the Word of God. And to help us find those scriptures, we'll be enlisting two of God's servants who have done the research and allowed the spirit of revelation to give them insight into warfare.

As soon as you can, get your hands on one of these books: " Prayers that Rout Demons And Break Curses" by John Eckhardt, or "Binding the Strongman" by Dr. Cindy Trimm, author of "Rules of Engagement". With these resources, you will have no excuses for not being able to pray. We're determined to walk in authority in EVERY area, and now we can PRAY that into our lives on a daily basis. Come join us!

Book Club Meeting ComingUp!

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Hi, Book Travelers!  In exactly two weeks, we'll be coming together again to discuss the book, Ten Curses that Block the Blessing by Pastor Larry Huch.  That's Tuesday, August 31st at 7 p.m. Can you believe we're already in the eighth month of 2010?  This is such an important time to be alive.  I believe God wants to pour Himself out on us so we can be carriers of His anointing.  But we've got to get rid of some baggage along the way.  Join us as we get there together.

If you're in the Palatka area, come on over to Abundant Life Ministries.  You don't have to be done reading the book in order to be a part of the discussion.  Hope to see you at the meeting.

Ten Curses Discussions

Friday, July 2, 2010

Hi, Book Travelers!

There are awesome discussions on the topics covered by the book on our Daily Devotions page.  Please follow and participate in the devotionals from the week of June 28th-July 3rd, 2010.  This book is such a powerful resource that we wanted to share it with everyone, not just those who may get the chance to read it in our book club.

We'll be scheduling our next Book Club meeting soon, so keep looking.  God Bless.

10 Curses that Block the Blessing -- Chapter 1

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

What an awesome night of fellowship we enjoyed last night, Tuesday, June 15th, 2010.  We discussed the topic from chapter 1 of the book, "The Creative Power of the Tongue".  Pastor Larry Huch made clear one of the most powerful ways curses are released into our lives: through our mouths.  The enemy has deceived many believers into thinking that words are just words, but if God says we'll give account of every idle word spoken (Matthew 12:36), that must mean He doesn't see them as just words.  As a matter of fact, He created and placed within us this creative power -- the same power He used to speak the world into existence.

Here are more scriptures to solidify this concept.  Proverbs 18:21 tells us that "death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit".  Proverbs13:2-3 says, "A man shall eat WELL by the fruit of his mouth, but the soul of the unfaithful feeds on violence.  He who GUARDS his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction."  The enemy is counting on us not to take this principle seriously.  Whatever we spend the most time thinking about, those thoughts will spill over into what we say.  And whatever we're saying is being carried out either for us (blessings) or against us (curses).

Book travelers, I encourage you to get this book and allow it to line your words up with the Word of God.  I look forward to discussing it with you on this blog or in person.  Keep traveling!
